Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 25, 2026
1. Overview
FreeVideoCompress ("we", "our", or "the Service") is a browser-based media processing tool. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our website at freevideocompress.com.
The core principle of our service is local processing: your video files are never uploaded to any server. All compression, conversion, and encoding is performed entirely within your web browser using WebAssembly technology. We have no technical ability to access, read, or store your media files.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your video, audio, or image files
- The content of any files you process
- File names or metadata of your media
- Compression settings or output files
Your files exist only in your browser's memory during processing and are discarded when you close or refresh the page.
3. Information We May Collect
3.1 Usage Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics (such as page view counts and feature usage frequency) to understand how the site is used and to improve it. This data is aggregated and cannot be linked to any individual user.
3.2 Technical Logs
Like all websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically record standard access logs, including IP addresses, browser type, referring page, and timestamps. These logs are used solely for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and diagnosing technical issues. They are not sold or shared with third parties and are retained only as long as operationally necessary.
4. Cookies
We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We may use strictly necessary, session-scope cookies or browser localStorage for functional purposes, such as remembering your last-used compression settings within a session. No persistent identifiers are set for tracking purposes.
5. Third-Party Services
Our tool uses the following open-source and third-party technologies loaded in the browser:
- FFmpeg WASM — loaded from a public CDN (unpkg.com) for video processing. Only the WASM binary is fetched; no user data is sent to FFmpeg or its CDN.
- MediaBunny — a browser-native media encoding library. Processing occurs entirely client-side. No user data is transmitted.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of CDN providers used to deliver open-source libraries.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
7. Data Security
Because we do not receive or store your files, the primary data security benefit comes from our local-processing architecture. Your media never travels over the internet to our servers. We apply standard security practices to our web infrastructure to protect against unauthorized access.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
